GLC LEAGUE GYM LEADER CHALLENGE

LEAGUE RULEBOOK

GLC League Rules

Weekly tournaments use the Gym Leader Challenge format, with additional season rules for type badges, type locks, and the race to eight unique badges.

01

Gym Leader Challenge Format

All weekly league events are played using Gym Leader Challenge. Each deck represents a single Pokémon type and is built as a singleton deck.

  • Your deck may contain Pokémon of only one type.
  • Except for Basic Energy, you may include only one card with the same name.
  • Decks contain 60 cards and use six Prize Cards.
  • Rule Box Pokémon are not permitted.
  • ACE SPEC cards are not permitted.
  • Cards from Black & White onward are generally part of the GLC card pool, subject to the current GLC legality rules and ban list.

The official GLC rules page is the authority for card legality, banned cards, special rulings, and format updates.

02

Weekly Tournaments

League tournaments are held weekly.

  • Players must have a League account before registering.
  • Each tournament belongs to a specific season.
  • Players register for an event using one eligible Pokémon type.
  • The winner of the weekly tournament earns the badge matching the type they used.
  • Match records and tournament wins are tracked in the league standings.
03

Type Badges

There are eleven supported badge types in the league:

Grass
Fire
Water
Lightning
Psychic
Fighting
Darkness
Metal
Dragon
Colorless
Fairy

A badge is awarded for a weekly tournament win, not simply for participating with that type.

04

Winning Type Lock

Winning with a type locks that type for that player for the remainder of the current season.

Example

A player wins a Season 1 weekly tournament using Fire. They earn the Fire badge and may not register Fire again in another Season 1 weekly tournament. They must choose a different type.

When a new season begins, previously locked types become available again. Winning Fire in Season 1 does not prevent that player from using Fire in Season 2.

05

Winning the Season

The season objective is to collect eight unique type badges.

  • Only unique badge types count toward the eight-badge goal.
  • A player cannot earn the same type badge twice within one season.
  • Because winning a type locks it, players must succeed with different deck types as the season progresses.
  • The first player to reach eight unique badges wins the season prize.

06

Seasons

League history is organized into seasons. Events, badges, type locks, standings, and the eight-badge race are evaluated within the season assigned to each event.

  • Only one season is intended to be active at a time.
  • Weekly tournaments are assigned to a season by the organizer.
  • Type locks reset when the next season begins.
  • Historical badges remain part of a player's league history but do not count toward a new season's eight-badge goal.
07

Registration & League Accounts

Event registration is tied to a permanent League account so standings, badges, results, and type locks remain attached to the correct player.

  • Create a League account before registering for your first tournament.
  • Sign in before selecting an event and deck type.
  • Types already locked for the selected season cannot be used for registration.
  • Your public leaderboard identity is your player name and permanent League ID.
